El punk estaba zarandeando el mundo musical en 1977 y The Jam focalizó su ira en la mítica Carnaby Street de Londres, esa calle tan de moda en los años 60, donde las tiendas se amontonaban una encima de otra y tú debias conocerlas todas si querías ser una persona “cool”. Un auténtico símbolo del “Swinging London”.
En esta canción, que por cierto no está escrita por Paul Weller sino que tiene la firma de Bruce Foxton, el bajista del trío británico, The Jam muestra esa calle como ejemplo claro de la decadencia del propio Reino Unido. Nos cuenta que esa zona de Carnaby, antes una auténtica leyenda, ahora es una burla.
Fue la cara B del single de “All around the world” en el año 1977, single que logró alzarse hasta la posición nº 13 en las listas de ventas de Gran Bretaña. En el vídeo podemos ver a unos jovencísimos The Jam en su primera época, muy cercana al movimiento que dominaba el mundo por aquel año, el punk.
